How is MODE Environmentally conscious and Natural?

We strive to use sustainable, non-toxic ingredients in all of our products, from production to packaging and shipping.  Whenever possible we utilize biodegradable or recyclable packaging materials. Our candles are made with a custom blend of soy, coconut, and fruit waxes.  We use 100% lead-free cotton wicks, and natural fragrance blends that include essential oils to enhance our purity and quality standards.  Our MODE reed diffuser oil solutions contain an eco-friendly solvent base and essential oil blends. There are no harmful chemicals, toxins, or phthalates in any of our products.  Read on to learn how we package using eco-friendly solutions.

Is the soot that comes from a burning candle harmful?

The answer is no. Soot that can sometimes come from the top of a burning candle is the natural byproduct of incomplete combustion. The make-up of candle soot is comparable to the soot given off by cooking oils.  Any potential candle soot from our candles can be greatly reduced or eliminated by following our simple candle safety guidelines - trim the wick to 1/4" before every use to promote a safe flame height, place the candle away from drafty areas to avoid flame flickering, and ensure there is not debris in the wax pool.

What should I do if my candle is producing continual soot

Sometimes our environment may have the slightest air flow that we cannot even detect as a draft. Or we sometimes forget to trim the wick before lighting. To correct this, extinguish the flame. Allow the candle to cool, trim the wick to 1/4" removing most of the previously burned portion of the wick, remove any debris from the top of the candle wax, ensure the surrounding area is draft-free, and then re-light.  Candles have a recommended burn time of approximately 4 hours to prevent the flame getting too large and potentially becoming unsafe.

Candle Safety

Guidelines to safely enjoy your MODE Candles:

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended. Extinguish all candles when you leave a room or before going to sleep.  
  • Follow the 2-foot rule - don't place a burning candle near clothing, books, curtains or anything flammable.
  • Keep lit candles away from drafts, ceiling fans, and any air currents.
  • Ensure that the wax pool is clear of wick trimmings, matches and debris that might catch fire.
  • Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets.
  • Place candle holders on a stable, heat-resistant surface.   When burning multiple candles, place at least 8 inches apart as the excessive heat produced from multiple sources can cause surrounding surfaces to melt or become a fire hazard. 
  • Extinguish a candle if the flame gets too close to the candle holder or container.  Direct contact of fire against the glass container can cause the glass to break.
  • If needed, re-center the wick after the top layer of wax has melted to ensure optimum and safe burning.

How long should I burn my candle?

While ideally it is good to burn a candle until the melted wax reaches near the perimeter of the vessel (called full melt pool), below are guidelines for safety when burning various MODE candle sizes:

The 3 oz. candle should be burned for about 2-3 hours each time*. (*See note below)

The 8 oz., 9 oz., or 10 oz. candle should be burned from 3 to 4 hours each time*. Ideally, the first burn should allow for the wax pool to reach the outer perimeter
of the candle's glass container.  (*See note below)

The multi-wick 18 oz., or double wall 11oz glass candles should be burned approx. 4 to up to 5 hours at a time*.  (*See note below)

*Note: These guidelines are for a candle vessel that contains at least half of the candle wax.  Do no burn a candle down to the very bottom of the vessel as that can break the vessel and/or become a fire hazard. 
Burning candles for longer than recommended times can result in soot on the edges of the container or the glass can become extremely hot and can become a potential fire hazard. Never leave a burning candle in a room unattended, or near children or pets. Additionally, be aware that grouping several candles close together can increase the surface area heat and can cause surrounding materials to melt or catch fire.

Reed Diffusers

Guidelines for maximum enjoyment of your MODE Reed Diffusers:

  • To open your new reed diffuser:  Remove decorative cap.  Carefully remove the plastic plug taking care not to spill the oil inside.  Discard the plug.  Replace decorative cap by screwing back onto bottle- if you have the black geometric-shaped diffuser bottle, center the wax seal & ribbon on a triangular "bow tie" side of the bottle...because why not?!  :).
  • *Note: Avoid contact of oil with eyes, face, and mouth.  If oil gets on hands wash with soap and water.  Oil may stain fabrics and fibrous materials.  *Tip- use a paper towel or tissue to flip the oil-soaked reeds.  Oil is not for consumption.
  • Flip reeds weekly, or more often, to intensify the fragrance experience. The number of reeds used will determine how much fragrance will be released.  
  • Please allow at least 1 to 2 days for the reeds to absorb enough oil to begin permeating the surrounding air. You may begin flipping the reeds after the first day, but this is not necessary.
  • Your reed diffuser will enhance your whole house aromatic experience when paired with other MODE products of the same fragrance.  The diffuser fragrance level will vary based on factors such as size of the room, intensity or softness of the fragrance, and how many reeds are used.  Remember to flip the reeds. as desired.
  • In contrast to placement of a burning candle, reed diffusers will perform best where there is air circulation or in a location near regular traffic (i.e. entry table, kitchen counter, hall console table, powder room, etc.).
  • Be sure to always place your reed diffusers on a stable surface where it cannot be knocked over. Please keep away from children and pets.

Directions + Safety

Directions: Shake well before use. Spray into center of room, away from eyes and face. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Avoid direct spray on polished/tiled floors. Keep away from heat and open flames. Only use as intended. If eye contact occurs, flush eyes with water for 15 minutes and consult medical attention. Once empty, this container may be cleaned and reused or recycled. Caution: flammable.

How long will it take for my order to ship?

Once you place your order, you will receive an order confirmation notice. Your order will be processed within 24-48 hours. If your order is placed on a holiday or weekend, it will be processed on the following business day. Once your package ships, we will send you a shipping confirmation email.  

When will my form of payment be billed?

In our efforts to promptly package and ship your purchase, your payment method will be authorized at time of purchase. Your payment will be billed at the time the product is shipped out to you.

Which payment methods do you accept?

In keeping a balance with changing payment forms and efficiency to best serve you, we currently accept the following forms of payment: VISA, Mastercard, Discover, PayPal, and GooglePay

Why is my promo code not working?

The promo code is almost always associated with a limited time offer which may have expired. Please note that only one promo code or discount offer is available for use per order. Promo codes may be case sensitive, so please try entering your code just as written. If your promo code is still not working, please email us and we will be happy to assist.

My product is shown as out-of-stock. How will I know when it is available again?

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and are delighted to assist you with when you can expect your product to be back in stock. Please reach out to us via email at with your product request. In the event that there may be an extended delay from our material suppliers, we will be pleased to guide you to a similar product that you may find equally appealing.

Shipping, Returns & Refund Policy

How long will my order take to ship?

Once an order is placed, it will be processed within 24-48 hours. After processing, the order may take up to one (1) to two (2) business days for packaging and shipping out with one of our carriers. Once it is in the hands of the carrier, the shipping rate will be as per the posted delivery timeline of the carrier you selected at time of checkout. Orders will be shipped to residential and business addresses via your selected carrier Monday through Friday, except on major holidays and/or during periods of excessive heat during the summer season. Please note that we are unable to ship to P.O. boxes at this time.   

Can I change my shipping carrier or expedite the shipping after I place the order?  

Unfortunately due to our staff size, once you have selected a carrier and delivery rate at completion of your order, we cannot guarantee that we can alter the delivery timing or change your selected carrier. We will make every effort to assist prior to shipping, but be aware that you may need to contact the carrier once you receive notice that your order has been received by the carrier to make any changes to your delivery schedule.

Do you accept returns?

Due to the nature of our handmade products, all website sales are final. We will replace items that were broken or damaged in transit, or provide an equal value solution if the damaged product is not replaceable at that time. Should you receive an order that was damaged in transit, please email us with 5 business days from receipt at: so that we may help resolve your issue in a timely manner. Returns, refunds, or replacement products for reasons other than damage incurred during shipping cannot be accepted.
